Selection/Closing

When a search assignment has reached this stage on the heels of all other the stages in this outline, selection and closing will appear to be obvious. However, it is still crucial that the search firm remain the integral part of this process. Talent should be closed in very specific terms prior to any offer being discussed with the target organization. As well, counter offers from the exit organization will already have been detailed and mitigated by the search firm. Closing should not focus on the dollars and cents of any offer but more on the transition process of the chosen talent. The search firm should always present the initial offer both verbally then in the form of a letter so the subtleties and nuances of non-verbal communication do not add to an already stressful process. In the event of non-acceptance or a successful counter, the firm should immediately communicate with the target organization. While this is rare the search firm should always keep the target organization aware of this possibility. In an ideal situation, more than one potential hire is suitable to a target organization and the search firm maintains control even with an initial non-acceptance.
