Refinement

As the target organization begins to interview and therefore refine the talent into one or two high interest individuals, the search firm should not feel the need to back away from the engagement. It is at this point that credibility and expertise, enhanced by the process thus far, will empower the search firm to maintain control of both the target organization and the talent, as each vets the other. The search firm should have access to all selection members of the target organization and should convey, clearly, each person’s role in selection to the talent. Of crucial importance at this stage is the firm’s responsibility to coach the talent before every interview and then debrief both the talent and the target organization after each interview. Both parties (target organization and talent) should be aware of this important aspect to the search prior to any presentation occurring.
